food intolerances

understand your body and increase your energy

Everyone struggles with fatigue, some more often than others. Generally we put this down to the modern fast-paced lifestyles that we lead but if we took the time to look at the reasons behind it we could all benefit from increased energy.

We all recognise that our body reacts in different ways to the foods we take in from the caffeine boost to get us through the day to chocolate to help us feel good! These are quite general affects and we should all take the time to understand how our body reacts to the different substances that we put into it daily.

Unlike an allergy, a food intolerance may not manifest itself immediately. This delayed reaction means it can be difficult to trace what has caused discomfort. Common side effects of food intolerances include:

  • Stomach Pain
  • Bloating
  • Wind
  • Diarrhoea

Food intolerance tests are becoming more popular in the UK due to programmes such as “You are what you eat” and more people are getting involved in understanding their own body. At st. ann’s clinic we have adopted one of the most comprehensive food intolerance tests available in the world and certainly the most comprehensive currently available in the UK. Most tests, including those done by well known “celebrity experts” in the field look at the effect of between 42 - 115 foods.

At st. ann’s health the smallest test we do looks at 180 foods and the largest test looks at the effects of 280 foods. From this we can produce a list of foods that your body experiences problems with, which will have resulted in fatigue as energy is used working against it. Following your results you should change your diet to help your immune system “detoxify” and begin to restore itself, giving you more energy.
